[ In the kitchen of 1493, Souma takes a step back from where he's set up his phone to record himself. His headband is still around his wrist at the moment, but he's definitely already got an apron on in preparation, so he looks like someone that's ready for a throwdown with Bobby Flay right now. Which is strangely appropriate, given the fact he's about to ask for challenges from the community as well as give an offer. ]

Hey, everybody! I'm Yukihira Souma, and since I've been here for about a month now and this place seems like it's pretty American, United States-style, I figured I'd make an offer to the community before Thanksgiving rolled around. Food's a pretty big deal for any holiday, y'know, and as a chef I'm all about food. But I know that there's gotta be people that either don't know how to make Thanksgiving staples, or they just don't really know how to cook beyond the basics. [ Or at all, don't give people so much credit, Souma, two of the people you live with can't cook for shit. ] So, if anybody was interested...

[ He puts his fists on his hips, grinning big. Ignore the fact he doesn't usually cook Thanksgiving food, he's great at improv and learning on the fly. ] I've got a decade of cooking experience from working in my family's restaurant, and I'd be happy to give cooking lessons! For the holidays, and year-round, depending on how much practice you want to get in.

If you'd like me to prove myself as a good cook, since I can't really give you a resume or anything here, just tell me what your favorite food is and I'll make it for you! [ Then, he pauses, looking thoughtful before he resumes like an idea's dawned on him. ] Or, hey, even if you don't want cooking lessons... Let me know what your favorite food is, everyone, and I'll serve it up for you, Yukihira style! If you can't pick, then just tell me whatever comes to mind and I'll make it all. It'd definitely help keep me in top form while I'm here, since I don't have any of my culinary classes here. The HOMEC ones don't really cut it compared to Toutsuki's rigorous training.

[ It's free food, who could turn that down? ]

That's fine! You can't get better if you don't have a challenge or someone to critique you! I just hope it's close enough to what you had back home, even if I have to try a couple times.

I think so, anyways. That's the thing I hear about and see the most when it comes to the holiday. And being thankful for stuff that happened in the year. [ Sounds legit. It's called Thanksgiving, after all, what else could it be about? (No one tell them it's also about the systematic murder of a people.) ] I've never done any of those! I haven't even touched a horse before, actually.

It's crazy, right? [ They sure do, but so does Souma. ]

I've never done a full meal, but maybe if enough people worked together we could get something.

[ Real world? Huh? ]

Yeah, you mentioned the food already, you got me at food.

Gimme a sec. [ Souma is Prepared for this. He moves over to where he's got a collection of cookbooks stacked, sorting through them before he returns, flipping pages of the one he's picked.

Which he then turns around to show Gintoki. ]

[ And with that out of the way. Syo turns his attention to Souma's cooking. ]

About you, though. Do you have a special type of food you're best at?

[ He wants to try Souma's cooking, but he's also legitimately afraid because he lives with Natsuki. ]

Thanksgiving? Ah, that's the thing they celebrate in America. Um... I like pink lemonade.

Yeah, with all the turkey and pumpkin stuff. [ But Souma tilts his head. ] Pink lemonade? Do you have anything you're allergic to or don't like?

That's a lot of candy! No preference for fruity or chocolaty or anything like that?

Haaa... [ Well, he'll still proceed, but at least he's got experience with awful tasting food because of his dad. And himself.

Restaurant Yukihira specializes in Japanese-style food! We're a diner, so the stuff that's filling but inexpensive, or can be called simple comfort food. But I can make pretty much anything - we have diners come in and ask for stuff not on the menu all the time.

It's definitely a lot different than Japan.

That'd be pretty great. I'm sure there wouldn't be a shortage of people wanting to eat it.

I've got lots of free time so any day is good! And— I live alone and I don't cook much, so I don't really have a lot of ingredients here. Can the lessons be at your place?

[she has one cupboard stuffed top to bottom with instant ramen packets. it's terrible.]

Yeah - my dad and I have done a couple Thanksgiving themed dishes, but nothing like what Americans do.

A Thanksgiving buffet! It'd be a good way to bring the community together.

Sure! And you can come over to 1493 whenever you want to! We can do some lessons, or I can make you something, or you can hang out with me and my brother Shouyou. Nobody should have to live or eat alone.

Yeah! It's been pretty cool, I was an only child back home and we didn't have roommates in my dorm, so! We've been having a lot of fun, and there's always food here between me and one of our dads.

[ Souma has basically adopted a cat and has no regrets about it. ]

[ Said very agreeably. Tadokoro's food definitely is, and his dad's is still made with love for his mom. ]
