[ In the kitchen of 1493, Souma takes a step back from where he's set up his phone to record himself. His headband is still around his wrist at the moment, but he's definitely already got an apron on in preparation, so he looks like someone that's ready for a throwdown with Bobby Flay right now. Which is strangely appropriate, given the fact he's about to ask for challenges from the community as well as give an offer. ]

Hey, everybody! I'm Yukihira Souma, and since I've been here for about a month now and this place seems like it's pretty American, United States-style, I figured I'd make an offer to the community before Thanksgiving rolled around. Food's a pretty big deal for any holiday, y'know, and as a chef I'm all about food. But I know that there's gotta be people that either don't know how to make Thanksgiving staples, or they just don't really know how to cook beyond the basics. [ Or at all, don't give people so much credit, Souma, two of the people you live with can't cook for shit. ] So, if anybody was interested...

[ He puts his fists on his hips, grinning big. Ignore the fact he doesn't usually cook Thanksgiving food, he's great at improv and learning on the fly. ] I've got a decade of cooking experience from working in my family's restaurant, and I'd be happy to give cooking lessons! For the holidays, and year-round, depending on how much practice you want to get in.

If you'd like me to prove myself as a good cook, since I can't really give you a resume or anything here, just tell me what your favorite food is and I'll make it for you! [ Then, he pauses, looking thoughtful before he resumes like an idea's dawned on him. ] Or, hey, even if you don't want cooking lessons... Let me know what your favorite food is, everyone, and I'll serve it up for you, Yukihira style! If you can't pick, then just tell me whatever comes to mind and I'll make it all. It'd definitely help keep me in top form while I'm here, since I don't have any of my culinary classes here. The HOMEC ones don't really cut it compared to Toutsuki's rigorous training.

Thanksgiving is this time of year? It's in October in Kuchen. [ And totally different from American Thanksgiving but he doesn't know that. ] I'd love to learn how to cook, I only know a little but it's always good to know more, right? And it sounds much more fun to learn cooking than politics. [ The things they teach the students at his school are pretty boring. ] I could teach you something in return if you'd like? If it's something I know.

In America it is! Sometime in November, anyways - I think towards the end? We don't really celebrate it in Japan so much as just kinda make a lot of food. [ At least that's what he and his dad did, he's not sure about the rest of the country. But he's nodding, grinning. ] I'd be down for doing a trade, though! What kinda stuff are you good at?

So it's all about the food? [ He already knew that Japan didn't have Thanksgiving, at least according to Naoji. But he doesn't know about much of what they do in that faraway Asian country. Though he knows they do kendo and kyudo and meditating. Or... Naoji does. ] Horseback riding, fencing, billiards, piano, composing. [ He wishes he had more things he was good at. He knows it's some very... fancy stuff that he knows. ]

I think so, anyways. That's the thing I hear about and see the most when it comes to the holiday. And being thankful for stuff that happened in the year. [ Sounds legit. It's called Thanksgiving, after all, what else could it be about? (No one tell them it's also about the systematic murder of a people.) ] I've never done any of those! I haven't even touched a horse before, actually.

So it's got nothing to do with the church there then? Or is a harvest celebration. [ (No one tell Ed about that, either.) But you could pay your gratitude for things in church or just in prayer at any time. ] Not once? They're amazing, you know!

It might! You'd have to look into it more. [ And you can pray to whatever god you follow while you're giving thanks! It's great. ] Not once! I've never seen one in person before. If there are any here, I'd like it if you could take me sometime in exchange.

I think they have a library, so maybe I can do that. [ There might also be a church around here somewhere. ] I haven't found any stable yet but if there is I'll definitely bring you.

I got some of my cookbooks from the library, so it's definitely around! I just didn't think to grab anything on the history of Thanksgiving. [ There could be, that one Souma's not 100% aware of. ] Thanks. They look like cool animals, I just didn't live anywhere that really had any.

I guess it's not the first thing one thinks about when going to a library. You found some good cookbooks there? [ Maybe Ed should go and see if there are any Kuchen history books about the time after 1935. ] They are, they're wonderful. I love my lady very much. [ He calls his horse his girlfriend. That says something. ]

No, probably not. But I got a good stack of 'em... [ Souma slides along the counter to get them, hefting up a stack of about ten books to drop down in front of where he's set up his phone. He uses them to prop his arms on, chin dropping on top. Curiously: ] What's her name? What's she look like?

That's great. [ He hopes he finds good recipes and stuff in them. ] Her name is Altea and she's the most gorgeous blood bay you could ever meet.

[ And hopefully Eduard finds what he wants when he goes looking, too. But he smiles, since he sounds happy talking about his horse. ] Bays are the brownish ones, right? Does blood bay mean she's like - copper-y?

Blood bays are more brown with a rich red hue.The coppery ones can be called chestnut or sorrel or copper bay, for example. [ Horses and colors can be complicated. ]
